NEET 2024 Reservation Criteria
Every year, thousands of students apply for admission to medical schools. There are differences in the qualifying examinations depending on the reservation criteria. NEET UG exam is an essential step to take admission in medical colleges in India which is conducted by NTA every year.
NEET 2024 is scheduled to be held on May 5, 2023. The body conducting the NEET exam has been shifted from CBSE to NTA. However, students need to keep in mind that the reservation in NEET will remain the same.
Before starting the NEET registration process, candidates need to understand the NEET 2024 reservation criteria to avoid any inconvenience in the admission process.

NEET 2024 Reservation For EWS
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare brought EWS quota in NEET-UG admission in 2019. Under this quota, 10% of seats are reserved in the government medical colleges for candidates from financially unstable backgrounds. The distinguishing criteria for EWS category in NEET 2024 reservation are listed below. It must be noted that those candidates whose family owns any of these will not be eligible.
Regardless of what the family income is, if the candidates fall under any of the following, they can avail the benefits of EWS quota:
- Annual income of the family must not be more than ₹8,00,000
- 5 acres of agricultural land and above
- Residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. and above
- Residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities
- Residential plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas others than the notified municipalities

NEET reservation criteria 2024 – Persons with disability
In compliance with the last year NEET reservation criteria, those candidates who have a benchmark physical disability are eligible for getting a reservation of 5%. Candidates will be getting this provision under effect of the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016.

Documents Required to Claim Reservation
Those who claiming reservation of seats under various reserved categories should show the relevant documents demanded by NTA to validate their claim for seat reservation failing. They may be debarred from counselling and the seat allotment process.
The nodal authorities for issuing these documents are also clearly indicated in the certificate formats published in NEET Information Bulletin.

NEET Reservation 2024 For 85% State Quota Seats
The guidelines for NEET reservation criteria for the seats which are under state quota will be set by the state counselling authorities on the basis of the prevailing reservation policies. Candidates must be aware that all the states have their own reservation policies. These reservation policies are strategized for different indigenous categories that are governed under state rule.
Also, the concerned state counselling authorities govern the admission process in the government and dental colleges of the particular state. Their reservation policy might not match with NEET 2024 reservation criteria.
Note: AFMC, Pune has its own reservation policy wherein there are no concessions for Physically Handicapped candidates. Those who seek admission in AFMC must check out the same on their official website. Applicants are required to register on their official website for further screening tests. They have a separate selection process and NEET is only the first step. Qualifying NEET does not ensure admission into AFMC, Pune.
Ques: Is there girl Reservation in NEET?
Ans: There is no NEET reservation for female candidates in 15% AIQ seats pool, however, under 85% state quota seats some of the state might offer special reservation to female candidates. Maharashtra , Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Uttarakhand are one of the states to offer a certain percentage of reservations female candidates under 85% state quota counselling.
Ques: Is there any Defence quota of NEET reservation in the admission process?
Ans: Yes, Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Ministry of Defence, Government of India lays down rules and regulations for admission to AFMC, Pune. Also, the spouses and children of terror attack victims can get reservations after qualifying NEET and the seats for those candidates are reserved under the central pool of seats for medical admissions.
