Andhra Pradesh NEET PG counselling is one of the most structured yet complex state counselling processes in India, conducted by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses. Unlike many other states, Andhra Pradesh follows a dual counselling system—separately governed rules for Competent Authority Quota (Government Quota) and Management Quota (Private Colleges), each with distinct eligibility, seat distribution, and admission criteria.
Under the Competent Authority quota, the counselling is heavily driven by a strict local reservation system, where a majority of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to specific local regions (Andhra University and Sri Venkateswara University areas). This makes Andhra Pradesh one of the few states where local status plays a decisive role, significantly limiting opportunities for non-local candidates. Additionally, the presence of In-Service quota with defined service requirements and long-term bond obligations adds another layer of complexity to the admission process.
On the other hand, Management quota seats in private medical colleges are divided into multiple subcategories such as Category B (S1), NRI (S2), and Institutional quota (S3), each having different eligibility conditions and fee structures. Notably, these seats allow participation from All India candidates, but come with higher fees and strict documentation requirements, especially under NRI and institutional categories.
Overall, Andhra Pradesh counselling is not just rank-based—it is a rule-driven system where understanding local status, quota type, service eligibility, and category-wise seat distribution is essential. A lack of clarity on these rules can easily lead to missed opportunities, while a well-planned strategy can help candidates secure the best possible seat based on their profile.

Andhra Pradesh NEET PG Counselling Overview

Seat Distribution in Andhra Pradesh NEET PG Counselling
Understanding seat distribution is the first and most important step in Andhra Pradesh NEET PG counselling, as the entire admission system is divided between All India Quota, Competent Authority (Government Quota), and Management Quota.
🏥 Government Medical Colleges
In Government colleges, the total PG seats are divided into two equal parts:
- 50% seats are allotted through All India Quota (AIQ) conducted at the national level.
- The remaining 50% seats fall under State Quota, which is filled through Andhra Pradesh counselling under the Competent Authority.
👉 This means State counselling candidates can compete only for half of the total Government seats, making competition extremely high.
🏨 Private Medical Colleges
In Private medical colleges, the seat distribution follows a completely different structure:
- 50% seats are reserved under Competent Authority Quota (Government Quota)
- The remaining 50% seats are Management Quota seats
👉 This creates two parallel pathways:
- Government quota (lower fees + strict eligibility rules)
- Management quota (higher fees + more flexibility, including All India candidates)

Andhra Pradesh NEET PG Government Quota Eligibility Criteria
In Andhra Pradesh NEET PG counselling, eligibility is not just about rank — it is primarily decided by your Local Status (AU / SVU / Non-Local). This is one of the most critical and confusing aspects of AP counselling.

• Parent has resided in AP for 10 years
• Parents/Spouse working in State Govt / Central Govt / PSU / Universities
• Working in AP government or related institutions
• Spouse of a local candidate

Andhra Pradesh NEET PG Managemenrt Quota Eligibility Criteria

• Open to all India candidates (no local restriction)
• Allotment based on NEET PG merit
👉 Best opportunity for non-AP candidates

👉 Non-local candidates NOT eligible
• State divided into:
– AU Region
– SVU Region
• Used for distributing 85% S1B seats
👉 Very important for seat allotment

– Financial documents
👉 False claims = admission cancellation + legal action

• MBBS from same college
• Employee (minimum 6 months)
• Child of employee

NEET PG Qualifying Cut-off

As per standard criteria, candidates must secure at least the 50th percentile for General category, 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC, and 45th percentile for PwD candidates to qualify the exam.

Andhra Pradesh Local Areas – AU vs SVU (Very Important 🚨)
In Andhra Pradesh NEET PG counselling, the entire state is divided into two major local regions, and this division directly affects seat eligibility and competition.
👉 If your study/residence falls in these districts, you are considered an Local candidate of that Area.

Andhra Pradesh NEET PG Reservation System

👉 Vertical Reservation (Category-based)

Understanding both is essential because final seat allotment depends on their combination.
