Uttar Pradesh NEET PG counselling is one of the largest and most competitive state counselling processes in India, conducted by the Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME), Uttar Pradesh for admission to MD, MS, PG Diploma, and DNB courses. With a vast number of Government and Private medical colleges, Uttar Pradesh offers a significant seat pool, making it a crucial state for NEET PG aspirants across the country.
The counselling process is conducted online and is based on NEET PG rank, eligibility criteria, and reservation policies. Uttar Pradesh follows a mixed participation model, where Government quota seats are primarily reserved for state domicile candidates, while Private and Minority college seats are open to a wider pool of candidates, including those from other states.
Due to the high number of applicants and varying fee structures across Government and Private institutions, candidates must carefully analyze the seat matrix, cutoff trends, and quota-wise eligibility before choice filling. Strategic planning becomes essential, especially for clinical branches, where competition is intense and cutoff ranks are relatively low in top Government colleges. Understanding the complete counselling process, along with round-wise rules and admission policies, can significantly improve the chances of securing a desirable PG medical seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh NEET PG Reservation Policy
The reservation policy for Uttar Pradesh NEET PG counselling is implemented strictly as per the guidelines of the state government, ensuring equitable distribution of seats among different social categories. This policy is applicable primarily to Government State Quota seats and is designed to maintain fair representation in postgraduate medical admissions.
The reservation system is broadly divided into vertical reservation (category-based) and horizontal reservation (across all categories). While vertical reservation allocates seats to categories such as SC, ST, OBC, and EWS based on fixed percentages, horizontal reservation provides additional benefits to specific groups like Persons with Disabilities (PwD) across all categories. Understanding this structure is essential for candidates to accurately assess their eligibility and maximize their chances during counselling.
